Exploration Drilling

“At Hagstrom Drilling, minimizing the environmental impact of our exploration drilling activities is a priority”

We understand at Hagstrom the importance of results and the consequences for mine planning. This is why Hagstrom only uses highly experienced exploration drilling teams, advanced drilling technologies and state of the art equipment. Whether Air core drilling for mineral sands, hard rock drilling in the Pilbara to completing jobs in remote regions across Australia, we understand the challenges and risks associated with these fields of work.

Our crews are highly experienced to operate both efficiently and safely. Our equipment is calibrated to cope with Australia’s harshest conditions, and we can supply self-sufficient exploration camp facilities.

EXPLORATION DRILLING SERVICEs

Hagstrom Drilling provides a wide range of exploration drilling and sampling services for assessing mineral and water resources for the mining and hydrogeological industries. Our drilling rigs can operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Rig crews work 12-hour shifts in rotation from anywhere between two to four weeks or more, depending on site requirements. We can offer a broad range of tools for surface drilling with our rig being capable of drilling in various ranges of depths.

Our Services

Diamond Core Drilling with Symmetrix
  • Diamond crusted drill bit’s are used to cut through rock layers, leaving core sample inside drill rods.
  • The sample is extracted via an overshot attached to the wireline cable.
  • Wireline provides efficient sample extraction without having to pull out entire drill string.
  • NQ, HQ and PQ sizes available.
Vertical/Angled Resource Holes
  • Diamond drill rig mast is set at pre determined angle to target ground specific geology.
Mud Rotary Drilling
  • Used for drilling through soft rocks, sand and clay mixtures
  • Specialised mud mixture is pumped down the hole, turning a rotary bit which returns rock chips inside the mud.
Rotary Air Blast Drilling
  • Used for exploration drilling sampling.
  • A spinning tungsten drill bit is forced into the ground, utilising air to push the sample up drill rods.
  • Useful in shallow depths or to remove soft rock on top of a deposit.
  • Utilising air compressors can help achieve greater depths.
Air Core Drilling
  • Used to drill weathered regolith instead of fresh rock.
  • Hardened steel or tungsten drill bit is used to bore the hole.
  • Provides a more representative sample than RAB drilling.
Downhole Hammer Drilling
  • A percussion hammer can be used with air to penetrate hard rock and push sample up the drill rods.
  • A pneumatic reciprocating piston/hammer drives a tungsten steel drill bit.
  • Greater depths are achieved than RAB or air core drilling.
