Drilling Responsibly and Sustainably

Minimising Environmental Impact Through Efficient Work Practices and AI Enhanced Equipment

For over 30 years, Hagstrom has been a leader in the delivery of responsible and sustainable drilling services to the mining, construction and oil and gas sectors across Australia; and more recently in the Asia Pacific region.

As a privately owned and operated entity, Hagstrom’s governance has been led exclusively by Paul Musca, supported by a leadership team who share his vision to deliver excellent, ethical results to mining and exploration clients. This is realised through their pursuit of innovative ways of working and the adoption of machinery, supporting equipment and technology that leads to greener outcomes in the field.

At the core of Hagstrom’s operations is a commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) policies, to ensure our project teams are drilling responsibly and sustainably across the entire mining project’s lifecycle.

Environmental Sustainability

Our environmental commitment is visible in the way we minimise our environmental impact by ensuring our drill rigs utilise advanced technology to reduce the overall disturbed area and disruption to habitat.

It is no secret that innovations in drilling technology have improved environmental protection. Hagstrom’s investment in the latest technology in its drill fleet has lead to increases in efficiency which has lowered the volumes of mud and cuttings, reduced waste and lead to reductions in noise and dust emissions. The technology has also contributed to faster drilling times which mean less time on location and less impact on the environment.

A key consideration at Hagstrom is also the use of biodegradable and environmentally drilling fluids that are crucial to sustainable drilling and exploration.

A significant portion of the land where drilling takes place is under the jurisdiction of native title and lands rights systems. Each community possesses its own distinct history and local context, encompassing cultural, social, and economic aspects. Our goal at Hagstrom is always to ensure that we thoroughly and respectfully assess any possible effects on Aboriginal cultural heritage on our projects. We ensure that our personnel are trained and educated to ensure that Aboriginal values and needs are considered and appropriately addressed as we undertake our daily operations.

Our Indigenous Engagement Plan describes our principles of engagement and pursuing meaningful partnerships with Indigenous supply partners in Western Australia.

Social

Our social commitment is demonstrated by our approach to creating an excellent workplace culture; the ongoing development and implementation of safety risk identification, mitigation and minimisation procedures; attracting and retaining a diverse workforce and ensuring we prioritise mental and physical health and wellbeing of our personnel.

We are dedicated to creating a positive impact as a Company through engaging with the local community and partnering with local, Australian-owned suppliers where possible.

Governance

Being a privately owned and operated business has meant that governance is self-regulated by individuals who have a vested interest in Hagstrom, its people and the Company’s conduct.

Employees are encouraged to be open about their experiences and make contributions or suggestions on approaches to work culture and operations.

Hagstrom’s management team has largely stemmed from employees who have made their start at Hagstrom and built their way up, to assume a leadership role. This positions them to connect with new starts, and also gives them the confidence to advocate in the interests of the team at large.
